Chapter 1: Living Together 1. Introduction — What Makes a Community? We all live together in communities — groups of people who share space, resources, and responsibilities.
Our villages, towns, and cities are communities where people depend on one another to live comfortably and happily. Definition:A community is a group of people living in the same area, sharing resources, and helping each other. Why Are Communities Important?People share work and services (teachers, doctors, shopkeepers). They use public places together (schools, parks, markets). They celebrate festivals and solve problems together. They make life safe, clean, and enjoyable for all. Key Idea:“When we live together and work together, we grow together.” 2. Chandan’s Village — A Glimpse of Community Life Chandan lives in a small, beautiful village.
He plays kabaddi with his friends in the playground near his house.
Under the big banyan tree, elders gather to chat — this is their meeting place. Observation:
Every place in the village — the shop, school, health centre, and park — connects people and supports each other. 3. Think:
What if these places didn’t exist?
